Two years in Finland

Two years ago I started my journey to Finland and now I can happily say that I permanently live here ❤

I wanted to go somewhere and film something exciting for my readers/subscribers but all my plans have been shattered by the nasty weather…so I ended up in front of my laptop playing this game called “Influent”. While playing, I recorded myself talking nonsense and just having fun failing 😀

Enjoy the video and cheers to two years in Finland!

Juhannus

Every year here in Finland, we have this holiday called Juhannus and people consider this celebration as important as Christmas. I personally don’t celebrate it but since I moved here, every time for Juhannus we are going to look for a kokko – the traditional midsummer bonfire. This year we were all tired and quite late so most of the kokkos that we have seen were almost off. And the weather has not helped us at all – rain, mellow weather and cold.

But at least I got to “vlog” a bit our Juhannus adventure so here it is. Enjoy! 😀

Once upon a December

I’ve been wanting to record the song “Once upon a December” for a while now but I didn’t have any free time or good disposition (the lack of sun here in Finland makes me really tired sometimes).

But yesterday I finished everything: from recording to filming and some extra photos in my “home studio” 😀 So everything is done by me!

The voice might sound like it’s coming out of a jar because I’m still learning my recording software but I’ll get there! Appreciate the effort, please! 😛

So, here you have my cover of “Once upon a December”. The movie has a special meaning to me and each time I watch it, my thoughts fly to my grandmother who is waiting for me home in Romania so I dedicate this to her with all my heart ❤

The last warm days

I know it’s been a few weeks since I didn’t write here but I’m back!

Suomenlinna – is the place where I always like to go whenever I’m in Helsinki. I got a ticket from the ticket machine at the Market Square and I jumped in the ferry. The journey to the sea fortress takes around 10 minutes but I never count how long it takes because it feels amazing to be on top of the water and to have the wind playing with your hair and seagulls flying above at the same pace with the ferry. It feels like you are one of them. One with the nature!

This time I explored the island a bit more and I have discovered places where I could hide and be alone. Places where I can have the Baltic Sea at the bottom of my feet and then rest in a coffee shop with a hot chocolate and an original Fazer chocolate candy. All these things you can see yourself below. Enjoy!DSC_0109.jpgdsc_0144

And as a blog post ending “delight”, here is a mini travel vlog 🙂 See you next time!

Cheerio, darlings!

One with the waves, ocean soul

There is a place for each one of us where our soul finds it’s peace. Mine is close to the water.
Each time I see a river or a lake, my soul starts trembling of joy and my heart almost pops out of my chest. It’s a feeling of being home. A feeling of serenity and peace of mind.
I am a simple person and small things make me happy. But more happy I am when I can see with my own eyes the reflection of the forest or the sky on the lake. And although water is odourless, I feel a special scent of the waves that I cannot put into words and that makes it even more special to me!
That’s why I’ve chosen to film my parts for the Ocean Soul project on a deck over the lake. After filming a few scenes, my beloved one asked me “Aren’t you cold? I am freezing!” and I can honestly tell you that I did not notice the cold wind blowing until he told me.
I was above water and I was free!

The idea of the musical project called Ocean Souls belongs entirely to Dean Kopri and it’s also a part of Kitee International Art & Music Festival. He managed to gather 12 people from different countries together, with different singing styles, created wonderful piano arrangements of the original songs by Nightwish and wrote music sheet for every single voice and instrument. How awesome is that? We all have been working for almost a year now on our parts and although Ocean Souls have played in Kitee (Finland) this summer, some of us couldn’t make it but the other girls simply nailed it! I will leave down bellow our first song published on YouTube for the entire world to listen and stay tuned for more!
And although you can barely see the make-up in the video, here is what I used:
make-up
*Before foundation, I always moisturize my skin with the daily moisturizer with camelina oil by Lumene and leave it for a few minutes to let the skin absorb it*
Foundation: FIT me! by Maybelline (matte + poreless) #105 natural ivory
Beauty blender by PARSA beauty
Concealer: Soft touch mousse by Essence #20 soft sand
Eyeshadow base: I (heart) stage by Essence
Eyebrows:Eyebrow stylist set by Essence
Powder (just a little bit!): New mater maker by Maybelline New York #10 classic ivory
Eyelid highlights: a sparklish-pinkish color from the pallete Magic Studio Naked Way
Eyelid shadow: Ombre essentielle by Chanel #112 pulsion
Eyeliner: Liquid ink eyeliner waterproof by Essence
Mascara: Rock ‘n’ doll by Essence
Bronzer: Bronzing powder by H&M #dark tan (just a bit on the top of the brush otherwise it would look weird on the cheeckbonesbecause I hate getting a tan!)
Lips: XXXL Longlasting lipgloss velvet matt & lipliner #06satin mauve by Essence (I love nude colors for the lips!)
And to set and help the make-up last on the face the whole day, I use the setting spray matte finish from NYX. It’s a life-saver and I love it!
Do you still wonder why your girlfriend is always late on a date? haha!
And at the end of the day, instead of tea with honey and lemon and Paracetamol, I switched to hazelnut vanilla ice cream. Ooops!

What did I do yesterday?

Hours before the windstorm, we remembered about the downtown fair that I was so curious about 😀 Unfortunately I realized too late that there is no battery left in my camera but a smartphone always comes in handy in this kind of situations!

There is no way I won’t write about this because I was in total shock when I saw our traditional Romanian “sarmale” (cabbage rolls) in K-market! Well…these are Finnish but anyways…it was a pleasant surprise to see that they have similar “sarmale”!

They might not taste like the ones made by my grandmother and although I was tempted to get them, I didn’t. I will wait until I go home and serve them with “mămăligă” (maize porridge/polenta?) and sour cream. That’s a real Romanian dish!

And finally we are at the fair! The child in me has come to the surface!

I WANT CRUELLA de VIL PAINTED ON OUR WALL IN THE LIVING ROOM, PLEASE!

14113899_10154502301124721_1517060461_o.jpg

I don’t trust “the big one” but I had to have a picture with it 😀

Then something funny happened. I wanted cotton candy so bad because usually in my hometown (Suceava, RO) there is always cotton candy at every possible fair and my beloved one said that we can find it at the karkki (candy) booth. And while waiting for it, suddenly “there you go” came with a big bucket full of it. With wide-eyes opened I welcomed the thing and I was surprised that it didn’t come on a stick 😀 Happy me!

Do you remember these old American movies where the boy goes to “take a chance” and tries to get for his girlfriend the biggest, fluffiest and cutest toy? Well, we went there too. And I ended with a black sheep. Is that a sign? 😀 haha! definitely not!

And the windstorm has just begun -_- Goodbye fabulous pictures!

Turenki had also a small market near downtown today and I ended up getting handmade candles and a honey dipper (I’ve always wanted one) because I sweeten up my tea only with honey! DSC_0235.jpg

Probably I will never burn these candles but you know…once you let a woman in a market, she has to have everything!

A step forward!

puhutaan suomea“Puhutaan Suomea” (EN: Let’s speak Finnish”) is a magazine targeted to those who are learning or are interested in learning the Finnish language. Last May I was featured in the magazine and they gave me a chance to show people who I really am and why did I move to Finland.

“Why?” you may ask. Love is the answer!
